NEW RELEASES 2008 - 2009

Serenity‘Serenity’ (syn. CHEwalma) is a hybrid tea rose from Chris Warner in the U.K. Medium-sized blooms in a soft apricot-orange with hints of lemon, cream and pink, adorn a healthy, vigorous, upright bush with mid to dark green, glossy foliage. It has a slight fragrance. Named for our property at Fitzroy Falls. 1.5m

Bright SparkThis is another new rose from Chris Warner. ‘Bright Spark’ (syn. CHEwdayglow). We class it as a mini-flora, though its double, well-formed blooms in a deep red with a yellow reverse, are more reminiscent of a true miniature rose. It is quite tall with larger foliage than a miniature rose in dark, glossy green. 1m

Jacky's Favorite‘Jacky’s Favorite’ (pbr) will entice, with its large clusters of medium-sized, semi-single light coral pink blooms, which adorn strong arching stems clothed in mid to dark green glossy foliage. It is vigorous, hardy and disease resistant. It atones for its lack of fragrance with a wonderful display of warm pink hues that will look good in any garden. Bred by the ILVO at Melle, Belgium, it was awarded the Golden Rose of The Hague at their rose trials in 2005. 1.8m x 2.5m

Sky TowerAnother award-winning rose is the climbing rose ‘Sky Tower’ (pbr) (syn. SOMskywer). It is not a vigorous giant, rather one that can be espaliered on a fence or trellis over 3 sq. m. One stem of the eye-catching, large, semi-double iridescent pink blooms in beautifully open clusters will make a superb arrangement. The foliage is dark green, glossy and disease resistant, on this strong, healthy plant. Bred by Rob Somerfield of Glenavon Roses at Tauranga in New Zealand, it is the perfect foil for growers of climbing roses such as White Cloud, Iceberg or climbing Seduction.

Blackberry NipThe colour purple is a rare treat in today’s modern rose, yet with the new hybrid tea, ‘Blackberry Nip’ (syn. SOMnip), that is what you get. Another award winner from Rob Somerfield, it features sumptuous, shapely magenta purple hybrid tea blooms atop long stems, making it ideal for picking. Its quickness to repeat and its delicious fragrance will attract lovers of all roses. The blue-grey hue in its dark green foliage sets the plant off perfectly. In years to come, it will be a classic favourite. 1.5m x 1m.

Little Suzie‘Little Suzie’® (syn. HORgopop) is a quaint little shrub rose making its world premiere here in Australia. Named for the Secretary of the National Rose Society of Australia, it has large clusters of small, semi-double blooms in shades of lilac pink and white, with a strong musk fragrance, denoting its multiflora heritage. Another healthy, glossy-leaved rose from Horner’s in the UK. A great border rose, or small hedging variety. 1m x 1.5m

Gowan Brae‘Gowan Brae’, is an Australia-raised modern shrub rose in the David Austin style, being a seedling from his ‘Leander’ rose with a similar semi-climbing habit. The clusters of full, soft pink blooms have a mild fragrance with a hint of beer! A strong, vigorous grower. Named for the property of Heather and Richard Cant in Burradoo, NSW from whence it originated. 2.5m x 1.5m

Marie Louise Velje‘Marie Louise Velje’ is a most beautiful grandiflora-style rose adorned with small clusters of large, cupped, semi-double blush pink blooms which fade to white with age. They open to reveal unusual strawberry pink stamens and a moderate fragrance. The foliage is light green and semi-glossy on a plant of tall, upright habit. Another gem in our collection of roses from the Instituut voor Landbouw-en Visserijonderzoek (ILVO) in Belgium. 1.8m x 1m

Countess of Wessex‘Countess of Wessex’, (pbr applied for) is from the house of Peter Beales Classic Roses. Named for the wife of Prince Edward, this tall, vigorous and healthy cluster-flowered modern shrub has large, informal, off white fragrant blooms that open from creamy yellow buds. In clusters of up to five blooms on long stems, this rose, with mid to dark green glossy foliage, is a must for the cottage garden. 1.8m x 1.2m

Dark Moments‘Dark Moments’, from John Ford of New Zealand, is a large, strong-growing cluster-flowered shrub, with medium-sized, open blooms in shades of ox-blood and burnt orange, offering yet another new shade in the already vast spectrum of hues found in the genus rosa. In mild weather when the bees are foraging, the blooms give off a distinctive clove-like fragrance, a la carnations. A very interesting new variety, and long-lasting when cut. 1.8m x 1.8m

Bright Ideas‘Bright Ideas’, from the late Colin Horner of the U.K., is a healthy, controllable and sturdy climbing rose to 3 metres bearing clusters of medium-sized, somewhat cupped blooms in a deep pink, splashed and striped with white and silvery pale pink. Its dark green, glossy slightly crinkled foliage is also a distinctive, identifying feature. 3m x 2m

Crinoline Lady‘Crinoline Lady’ is an Australian-raised seedling of the English rose, ‘Abraham Darby’. It is a very tall shrub or pillar rose, bearing clusters of large, sumptuous, deep pink blooms displaying many ruffled petals giving a frilly petticoat effect, especially noticeable in the second half of the flowering season. There is a moderate fragrance of tea and citrus. Growth is vigorous and arching. 2m x 2m.

Orange Dawn‘Orange Dawn’ (syn CHEworangedawn), is a new pillar rose from Chris Warner, one of England’s most respected rose breeders. The loose, informal bright orange-yellow blooms appear regularly in small clusters on the laterals. It is vigorous, with a good clothing of healthy mid-green foliage. 2.5m x 1.5m

Precious Hearts‘Precious Hearts’ (pbr) (syn. HORcoexist) is a low, spreading shrub rose that smothers itself in small, single, deep red blooms with a yellow centre, creating a marvellous, starry effect. It has small, mid to dark green shiny foliage. Part of the proceeds from the sale of this rose will benefit HeartKids Inc., supporting children with congenital and acquired heart disease. 1m x 3m.

Blue For You‘Blue for You’ (pbr) (syn. PEJamblu), from Peter James in England via Australian Roses, is a tall modern shrub or pillar rose, displaying large, cupped, semi-double, fragrant blooms in a true old purple, with a blush to white centre, appearing in huge clusters on long, strong shoots. Foliage is dark green and healthy. A fascinating new variety for the back of the border or a pillar. 2m x 1.2m.

Ivor's Rose‘Ivor’s Rose’, another gem from Peter Beales, is a wonderful, continuous-flowering, modern shrub rose, producing clusters of up to ten large, full, deep red pink blooms on arching stems. The old-fashioned style flowers have a light fragrance. The plant is very vigorous, strong and healthy, making a wonderful cottage garden specimen. The foliage is dark green, glossy and disease-resistant. In our garden it has thrived on neglect, developing into a huge, untamed shrub. A marvellous new variety. 2m x 3.5m
